The Concept & Mood
Bunexim Sweets and Pastry: A Fresh Take on Tradition
This project for Bunexim Sweets and Pastry aimed to revitalize a well-established brand known for its traditional products, infusing a modern aesthetic while respecting its heritage and operating within an economic budget. The core concept for Bunexim Sweets and Pastry was to create a warm, inviting, and contemporary space that celebrates the freshness of baked goods while offering a comfortable area for customers to enjoy their treats. The mood is intended to be light, airy, and clean, moving away from the “old retro style” of previous locations towards a refreshed, appealing ambiance. The design seeks to evoke a sense of home-baked goodness with a touch of modern sophistication, making it approachable for all middle-classes individuals.
Project type: Commercial interior design
Industry: Horeca, Bakery and Pastry
Tools used: 3DMax, Corel, Canva.

Material & Chromatic Palette
The material and chromatic palette were carefully selected to achieve the desired mood while adhering to the economic budget. Natural wood tones form the foundation, providing warmth and a connection to the traditional aspect of baking. These are complemented by clean white surfaces, which enhance brightness and create a sense of hygiene, crucial for a food establishment. The key accent colors are soft pastel pinks and vibrant yellows, primarily seen in the seating. These colors inject a youthful and playful energy into the space, creating visual interest and a cheerful atmosphere. Geometric patterns, subtly incorporated in flooring and wall textures, add a contemporary edge without overwhelming the traditional elements. The use of white pendant lights provides both functional illumination and a modern decorative touch.
The Challenge & Design Features
The primary challenge of this project was to efficiently integrate multiple functional zones – serving, seating, pastry production (including an electrical oven), product display, and back-of-house storage – within a limited commercial space, all while adhering to an economic budget and updating the brand’s image.
To address these challenges, several key design features were implemented:
Integrated Serving and Seating: The serving counter was designed to flow seamlessly into a dedicated seating area, optimizing the use of space. The tables and chairs, in their soft pink and yellow hues, are strategically placed to encourage customer interaction while maintaining clear pathways.
Efficient Pastry Production Zone: A compact yet functional area was designated for pastry production, cleverly incorporating the electrical oven without encroaching on the customer-facing areas. This allows for fresh baking on-site, enhancing the customer experience with the aroma of freshly baked goods.
Maximizing Product Display: Extensive use of glass display cases allows for clear and attractive presentation of the wide array of sweets and pastries. Shelving units behind the main counter provide additional display and storage for bread and other baked goods, maximizing visual appeal and product accessibility.
Smart Storage Solutions: While not fully visible, the design concept included thoughtful consideration for back-of-house storage, ensuring operational efficiency and a tidy appearance in the customer areas.
Blended Aesthetics: The blend of natural wood, clean whites, and strategic pops of color successfully transforms the “traditional old retro style” into a contemporary and inviting space. The vertical wood slat panels on the walls provide texture and a modern touch, contrasting with hexagonal patterned wall elements that add subtle visual interest.
